Water-cooled condenser, air-cooled condenser and evaporative (dripping water) condenser are three common types of condenser used in HVAC systems

What is a water-cooled condenser?
Water is the key media in water-cooled condensers to exchange heat with the refrigerant, causing it to condense. This water is also known as "cooling water". Compared to air cooling, water cooling results in a lower condensing temperature and a higher energy efficiency ratio(EER). Water-cooled condensers are usually available in vertical shell and tube, horizontal shell and tube, casing, plate and other types.

What is an air-cooled condenser?
An air-cooled condenser uses air to exchange heat with the refrigerant, causing the refrigerant to condense. Air-conditioning refrigeration systems mainly use mechanical ventilation to make forced convection, thus the gaseous refrigerant in the condenser tube will be cooled. The air-cooled chillers, which are currently used more often in Hicon industrial air conditioners, will normally use axial fan ventilation to cool the condenser.
