A Water Cooled Marine Air Conditioner uses seawater or a water-side cooling loop to remove condenser heat from the refrigeration system. Compared with air-cooled units, seawater-cooled systems can offer stable heat rejection, compact installation and lower condenser-side noise when the vessel has proper seawater pump, strainer and piping infrastructure. This makes them suitable for many marine and offshore applications where continuous operation, efficient cooling and equipment reliability are priorities.
Choose a seawater-cooled marine AC unit when the vessel has reliable seawater supply, when machine room ventilation is limited, when air-cooled condenser heat discharge is difficult, or when a compact and efficient cooling system is needed. The key engineering challenge is seawater corrosion. Therefore, condenser material, tube design, end cover material, anti-galvanic protection and tube cleaning access are critical purchasing factors.

The condenser is one of the most important components in a seawater-cooled marine system. HISURP seawater condensers use corrosion-resistant material combinations to withstand aggressive marine cooling water. Typical design features include heat transfer tubes, cast aluminum bronze end covers and composite tube sheet structures. These material choices help improve resistance to seawater corrosion and extend service life.
Seawater systems must consider both pressure safety and electrochemical corrosion. HISURP condenser designs can include safety valves, anti-galvanic corrosion devices and structural measures to reduce corrosion risks. The refrigerant-side liquid receiver design helps stabilize refrigerant supply to the evaporator when the vessel is rolling or inclined.
A vessel’s rolling and pitching may affect compressor oil supply. HISURP marine systems consider deep oil sump design, compressor anti-vibration protection and marine anti-corrosion surface treatment. Danfoss piston compressor configurations are available, and Bitzer compressor customization can be discussed for specific projects. Large-capacity systems can use dual compressors and dual independent refrigeration circuits so that one circuit fault does not completely stop the cooling system.
Water-cooled evaporators can use dry shell-and-tube structures with external anti-corrosion protection. Air-side evaporators can use efficient tube-and-fin designs. Refrigeration accessories may include externally equalized thermal expansion valves, Danfoss low-pressure switches, expansion valves, dry filters, oil receivers, gas-liquid separators, solenoid valves, sight glasses, pressure gauges, shock absorbers and high/low pressure protection devices.
Because vessels may operate far from shore, maintenance access is a major design priority. HISURP units can be configured with three removable panels for easier inspection, nylon filters that can be removed from the front panel, visible high/low pressure gauges, lifting rings for hoisting, and service-friendly condenser cleaning structures.
